Ever felt like your coffee machine is spewing out warm coffee instead of the steaming hot cuppa you used to enjoy? First, let’s take a quick look at how water is heated inside your machine. Most modern coffee machines use thermo block technology systems which heat water through contact. These systems have small channels that allow water to pass through it. So how hot the water will get depends on the contact time and the surface area of contact between the water and the thermo block.
Over time a layer of limescale tends to build up around the thermo block and inside its channels. This build-up decreases the surface area and ultimately the contact the water will have with the thermo block. The build-up restricts the transfer of heat to the water which means you get colder coffee. Blocked thermo block channels can also eventually lead to machine failure. And we definitely don’t want that!
Lime scale and mineral deposits should be removed regularly by properly descaling your machine. Descaling with a proper solution thoroughly removes the build-up of those horrible deposits and keeps your machine running as it should, ensuring you continue to enjoy your coffee! Doing so will also prolong the life span of your coffee maker, avoiding the need to go and buy a new one.
